THE CHARLES PRESS PUBLISHERS

How to Order Desk and Examination Copies

1. DESK COPIES

Academic desk copies are offered free of charge to college faculty who have already decided to use, and have placed an order for, a Charles Press book as a required text for their course.

To receive a free desk copy, an order for a minimum of 12 new copies of the book must have been placed with, and received by, Charles Press. One desk copy per adoption will be offered to instructors for qualifying purchase orders, provided that they have not previously received a desk copy of the same text. In some cases, an additional desk copy may be provided for a second instructor or TA for classes with enrollments of 25 students or more.

We will ship your complimentary desk copy free of shipping and handling charges, but only if it is shipped along with the bookstore's purchase order. If you need the book before the bookstore places their order, consider ordering an examination copy instead (the price of the book will be refunded upon proof of adoption).

In some cases, even though you order 12 or more copies, your bookstore may order fewer copies; sometimes they fill, or supplement, a new order with books they bought previously or with used books. If the number of new copies a bookstore purchases is 12 or less, we will not be able to provide you with a desk copy. In cases such as this, consider ordering an examination copy instead (see below). Also, in order to qualify for a free desk copy we require that the text be purchased directly from Charles Press or at least from a source from whom we can verify the purchase.

To order a desk copy, instructors (or their assistants) are asked to send a request on school letterhead by mail, fax or email (*.edu addresses only) that includes the following information:

1. Title, author and ISBN of the desk copy you would like
2. Title and number of the course; department or school within the university; and course level (undergraduate or graduate)
3. Instructor's name, academic title and position, mailing address, daytime phone number and email address
4. If applicable, assistant's name, phone number and email
5. Date course will be offered
6. Expected course enrollment
7. Name, phone and fax number of the bookstore where the order was placed
8. A copy of the bookstore purchase order (this is not required, but it will expedite the process)
9. If you want your copy shipped separately of the bookstore order, please supply the following:
a. Mailing address to which you want the book shipped (must be shipped care of your institution and cannot be sent to residences)
b. Credit card name, card number, expiration date and billing address and phone number for shipping and handling fees

2. EXAMINATION COPIES

Examination copies are for teaching faculty who would like to review a book for possible course adoption. Examination copies are offered at a 50% academic discount plus shipping and handling charges.

If, after reviewing the exam copy, you decide to adopt the book as a required text and we receive a purchase order from your bookstore for at least 12 copies of the book, the examination copy will become yours to keep free of charge to use as a desk copy. To receive a refund after you have adopted the book and placed an order (which we have received), please call or email us and provide us with the name of bookstore through which the adoption order is placed so that we may verify the order. We will then send you an updated invoice that reflects the refund for the book (less S&H). The invoice will not be cancelled until we receive a valid qualifying order for the course adoption. We regret that examination copies are not returnable or refundable. If you decide the book is not appropriate for your needs, you may keep it at the 50% academic discount.
